Professor Boya holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His current research efforts focus on quantitative methods, marketing strategy and international business. He has published in the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, International Marketing Review, and other journals.

On the teaching front, in addition to teaching courses both at undergraduate and graduate levels he has been active in promoting and participating in international programs. He has been involved with the Holland Fellows Program, a collaborative study abroad program between Walker College of Business and Fudan University in Shanghai, China, since its inception in 1996 and has been serving as the co-program leader since 2000.

In his spare time, he likes to read, play racquet ball, watch college basketball on TV and learn to write Chinese characters.
