Bill Phillips, MBA, CFPIM, is currently a full time Lecturer in the Department of Marketing & Supply Chain Management of the Walker College of Business teaching the basic supply chain management course required in the Walker COB. He also reintroduced a new SCM Technology Course Spring 2019 that gave students access to different types of Supply Chain Management software used in a global environment. This new SCM Technology course will be offered every spring now and will also include new supply chain modeling, configuration, simulation and optimization software used to solve complex global business problems.
Prior to coming to Appalachian State University in 2012, Mr. Phillips had over a thirty-year professional career in production and operations management primarily in the materials management, production planning, scheduling and business information systems (ERP) implementations. He has had extensive management experience in three major manufacturing companies in power distribution equipment, computer wire and cable and anti-locking brakes and has also worked as a supply chain management consultant for ERP system evaluation, selection and implementation for small to medium sized manufacturing and service organizations. He has been certified in three different ERP systems and has had extensive training in SAP's Advanced Planning and Optimization (APO) and Warehouse Management (WM) systems.
Mr. Phillips has been a strong supporter of the Association of Supply Chain Management (ASCM) (Formerly APICS) throughout his entire SCM career. He is certified at the fellow level (CFPIM) in Production and Inventory Management and has worked on the BOD's for local APICS chapters in South Carolina and North Carolina. He was a past president of the Foothills APICS chapter in the Hickory-Morganton area and is currently VP of Arrangements for the Foothills chapter. He has been on the ASU Advisory BOD for the Supply Chain Management Major/Minor Program since it started and continues to support the ASU Student Supply Chain Club (ASCC). His continuing education includes a Network Technologies Certificate from Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute with special focus on virtualization.
In addition to his professional activities, he is also an avid tennis player and helped organize and manage the USTA Adult Team Tennis League in the Hickory / Morganton area for several years.
